Overview

All students at Paget High School follow a broad and balanced curriculum, which reflects the needs of our students and national and local priorities. It allows students to develop the knowledge required to succeed in the adult world now and in the future. 

It is our intention that all students at Paget High School should: 

• enjoy learning and appreciate the value of learning and qualifications 

• understand that their learning will continue throughout adult life in order to play an active part in society 

• access and build their knowledge and understanding of our shared cultural heritage 

Through taught lessons and beyond (see the Paget Way) students at Paget High School should develop: 

• a broad range of factual knowledge 

• an understanding of a wide range of academic disciplines 

• a range of practical skills 

• strong numeracy and literacy skills (both written and spoken), which they can use appropriately in a broad range of situations 

• essential skills for life and work, including: independence, resilience, teamwork, the confidence to take on challenges, adaptability. 

All students follow a broad range of subjects from Year 7 to 11, giving our students opportunities to learn a wide range of knowledge and to develop a variety of skills. 


Key Stage Three 

We place a strong emphasis on the importance of English and Maths throughout KS3 and 4, with great emphasis on students achieving at least their target grade in order to maximise opportunities in KS4 and Post-16 

In KS3 (Years 7,8,9), all students also study Science, History, Geography, World Views, a Modern Foreign Language, Music, Drama, Art and Technology.

• PSHE is taught by a team of specialist staff and includes Citizenship, Careers Education, SRE 

• Technology in KS3 is taught in smaller groups to allow for practical work. Students study three areas of Technology each year: Product Design, Textiles, Food. 


Key Stage Four

There is still a strong emphasis on English, Maths and Science. All students follow the core – it is a broad curriculum that everyone in England studies. 

The core includes GCSEs in:

  • English and English Literature 
  • Maths 
  • Double Award Science: consisting of Biology, Chemistry and Physics 
  • All students will study PHSE and Core PE

In addition to the Core, students will study an additional three qualifications. At least one qualification must be an Ebacc subject Geography, History, Computer Science, Spanish or French. The other qualifications come from a wide range of subjects.

EBacc Subjects 

All students must study at least one EBacc subject: 

  • Geography 
  • History 
  • Computer Science 
  • Spanish or French

Practical Subjects 

Most GCSEs are assessed by exams at the end of Year 11. We offer some GCSEs which include practical coursework: 

  • Art and Design 

Vocational Qualifications

Vocational subjects are linked to a specific job or area of employment. Vocational subjects have a mixture of exams and ongoing assessment. This means that some of the work done during Year 10 and Year 11 counts towards the final grade. 

We offer qualifications in:

  • Health and Social Care
  • Digital Information Technology 
  • Enterprise and Marketing
  • Performing Arts
  • Sport Science
