Mind – In Humanities, we study the past in order to understand the modern world; the present in order to understand how societies work and differ; and the future in order to help students tackle the future challenges as empathetic citizens. We are passionate about instilling a love of learning, and encouraging
curiosity about the diverse cultures that have shape our world. In Humanities, we empower students to ask perceptive questions about changes in society, the reasons for conflict and the consequences of decisions. Students are supported to build confidence in thinking critically and reaching judgements based on evidence.
Body – Students develop empathy in all students through the study of people, the past, and the world around them. This promotes mindfulness and well-being as students appreciate the context of their own lives in modern society in the UK. Students are taught to be open minded and respectful of diverse opinions.
Spirit – Humanities subjects lend themselves to developing a
sense of moral purpose and authenticity. Learning about people, places, times and societies, enables students to connect with the world and the communities they interact with. Studying a wide variety of cultures, customs, and beliefs helps students to develop their own moral compass, and appreciate how this is affected by the context of their own lives.
